UKE-101 is an introductory workshop for those who have had NO previous ukulele playing experience.
It begins at ground zero and is very basic.
Previous musical background is not a success factor: some of our most successful grads have had none whatsoever.
This class is expected to fill quickly, so please indicate your interest as soon as you can.

OUR UKE-101 GUARANTEE:
YOU WILL BE PLAYING SONGS IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS
Play the world’s friendliest instrument in 3 hours no matter what your musical background.
After completing this workshop, you will have played songs and learned enough be able to approach almost any tune on your own.

A GROUP SETTING GEARED TO INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION
UKE-101 sessions are limited to 20 new students.
We will confirm moving forward when at least 15 register in advance.

WE SET THE SCENE TO DEVELOP YOUR EARS
You will learn how to be able to tune your ukulele without assistance:
- from a single reference tone
- with the use of an electronic tuner
We use C tuning for soprano, concert and tenor ukes (G-C-E-A).
This workshop can not accommodate baritone ukes.
(they are tuned differently)

WE SHOW YOU HOW TO FORM CHORDS WITH YOUR LEFT HAND
You will be introduced to several basic chords, and with a little practice you’ll be capable of playing almost ANY song.
MAJOR CHORDS: C F G A Bb
MINOR CHORDS: Am Dm
OTHERS: A7 C7 Cmaj7 E7 G7 Am7/C6
We won’t have enough time to really get into "bar chords", but we will touch on the concept. A lot more on this in our follow-up UKE-201 workshop.
We will look at the ways chords are notated in sheet music so that you can begin to translate what you see to what you play.

WE GRANT YOUR RIGHT TO RHYTHM
You will learn the basics of comfortable, fluid right hand strum style and how to keep time with a steady beat.
You will be introduced to the concepts of time signature, meter and tempo.

EVEN A CRASH COURSE IN GROSS ANATOMY
Like you, your uke is the sum of its parts.
We introduce proper names for the important ones so you can walk the walk AND talk the talk.
English only, NO latin (we ahmisspray!).

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED
  • a playable ukulele in decent condition that stays in tune under normal conditions
(sopranino, soprano, concert or tenor ukes only please - baritones are not appropriate for this workshop)
