UKE-201 with Steve McNIe
a sophomore's refinement of chord & strum
This is a follow-up workshop for those who have previously attended a UKE-101 session.
  • group setting geared to individual attention
  • limited to 25 participants
  • we use "C6" tuning: G-C-E-A
  • this workshop can NOT accommodate baritone ukes
  • there is a 5 minute washroom break at the top of each hour
  • please arrive early to get settled and for tuning assistance: we start promptly at the appointed time
  • an online link to our projected Powerpoint presentation will be emailed to you within 48h following your workshop
  • minimum age: 16 please, no exceptions
See our CALENDAR for the workshops customized for younger participants.
PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP UNTIL YOU ARE READY
We will not be reviewing basic 101 technique so please know and be able to transition fluidly between these chords:
C(0003) F(2010) G7(0212)
Am(2000) Dm(2210) E7(1202)
optional, but worth including: A(2100) D(2220) Bb(3211)

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Our focus will be on expanding your chord palette and working on your strum:
  • introduce bar chords
  • integration of "YUGA" into your practice routine
  • introduce new, more complex strums
  • refinement of your strumming style
  • introduction to picking basics
  • employ songs to parler what you learn into real terms
  • review tuning and introduce ways of developing your sense of pitch
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • a playable ukulele* in decent condition that stays in tune under normal conditions
(sopranino, soprano, concert or tenor ukes only please - baritones are not appropriate for this workshop)
  • short nails! Your finger nails on both hands need to be short enough to not get in the way (trimmed to just below your finger tips)
  • optional but highly recommended: an electronic chromatic tuner (we like the $20 Kala KC-02 best by far)
  • an open mind, be ready to sing a little and to let yourself have fun
  • registering in advance at this site is the only way to guarantee your place in the session that suits you
EXCEPTIONAL VALUE
$38 (at the Dominion on Queen) | $45 (elsewhere) for one, all-inclusive 3 hour group workshop

* We can supply you with a fairly priced, ukuleleHIGH-approved Makala MK-S soprano entry level ukulele at $50 plus tax. These need to be ordered and paid for at the time of your reservation and will be waiting for you, ready to play at your workshop.
