UKULELE LUV
a MARCH BREAK uke camp for kid/adult pairs

Toronto's EVERGREEN BRICK WORKS is the venue we've selected to present UKULELE LUV

This is a deliciously unique opportunity for you to learn to play ukulele along side your favourite kid in the incomparable setting of Toronto's EVERGREEN Brick Works.
Our goal? A learn/play experience that is at once engaging, enriching and a LOT of fun.
We ask that you register as a uklear family pair: one adult and one child (7-11).
A PERFECT connection opportunity for parents, grand parents, aunts and uncles!

Beginning on March 3, the Saturday prior to March Break, and then every morning from Monday thru Thursday during March Break (March 12-15), we open the door for the two of you to play the worlds friendliest instrument no matter what your musical background.
Each morning session begins is 9:30am thru noon.
You'll be playing songs in no time and have learned enough be able to approach almost any tune on your own.
We feel strongly that a good supervised start is important to sustaining interest in music.
We are committed to making this a memorable experience that takes full advantage of the EVERGREEN environment.
  • group setting geared to individual attention
  • limited to 15 adult/child pairs (30 participants)
  • we use "C6" tuning: G-C-E-A
  • there is a 5 minute washroom break at the top of each hour
  • please arrive early to get settled and for tuning assistance: we start promptly at the appointed time
  • an online link to our projected Powerpoint presentation will be emailed to you within 48h following your workshop
  • AGE RESTRICTIONS: children 7-11 please, no exceptions | adults: age of majority (minimum)
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
  • several basic chords that with a little practice, you'll be able to use to play almost ANY song:
    MAJOR CHORDS: C F G A Bb
    MINOR CHORDS: Am Dm
    OTHERS: A7 C7 Cmaj7 E7 G7 Am7/C6
    (bar chords are covered in UKE-201)
  • reading charts
  • comfortable, fluid basic right hand strum style and maintenance of tempo
  • intro to concepts of time signature, meter
  • tuning without assistance and use of electronic tuners
  • instrument anatomy
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Your cost to participate includes 2 ukuleleHIGH-approved Makala MK-S entry level soprano ukuleles. These will be waiting for you, ready to play at your workshop.
Our first Saturday is dedicated exclusively to turning your ukulele into playable art under the supervision of an elementary school art specialist. We supply everything you need: paint sparkles, stickers etc.
  • short nails! Finger nails on both hands need to be short enough to not get in the way (trimmed to just below finger tips)
  • an open mind and a zest for fun
EXCEPTIONAL VALUE
$400 per adult/child pair, includes 2 ukuleles and 5 mornings of tremendous fun
